On March 26, 2024, at around 1:28 a.m., the majority of the bridge collapsed after the Singaporean container ship Dali collided with a pier. The collapse has been called a mass casualty incident; an unknown number of vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the collision and subsequent collapse.
